The Philadelphia 76ers held a “Go Green Event” on March 31, 2011, for the students of the Vaird Boys & Girls Club, hosted by Sixers Play-by-Play announcer, Marc Zumoff. This event was held to create awareness about the importance of recycling and going green, during the NBA’s Green Week.

Special appearances were made by Hip-Hop, Thaddeus Young, Jason Kapono, Jrue Holiday, and Lou Williams, who helped the students with the “Go Green” activities. Another special guest was Geri Thompson, from Waste Management, who spoke with the students about the importance of going green.

The students participated in various craft and game activities all of which incorporated the use of recyclable materials. Students constructed robots out of recycled cans, decorated picture frames with bottle caps, and even assembled noise makers using recycled bottles.

At the conclusion of the event, the students found out they were all getting the opportunity to attend the April 6th “Green Night”, to see the Sixers take on the New York Knicks.
